Tip of the Month

No ball putted short of the cup has ever gone in the hole! Yet most weekend players, perhaps afraid of the ball going to run too far, consistently hit their putts short of the cup. If you miss a putt, you'll learn far more if you hit it past the hole than if it ends up short. If you do miss a putt long, you can see how it breaks and know the line for the return putt and nail it coming back. A faster moving ball holds the line better than one trickling along. Firm putts are more immune to bumps and ball marks. They also break less. If your tendency is to hit your putts just hard enough to have them die into the hole, then you are playing more break than you have to. As a rule, hit the putt a little harder and play less break.
